A collection of thoughts

Been a week of late nights (except Thursday) and my skin suffered as a result: rougher texture, abit of a breakout near my chin (I do wipe my mouth after meals so it couldn't be because I am a dirty little woman who never cleans up after eating), parched lips every so often and my undereye circles are a permanent fixture.

After dinner and drinks on Tuesday, had to catch a cab home. You can't imagine why Clarke Quay is still so crowded on a weekday; mostly ang-mohs so most probably tourists. We stood in line for quite a bit even though the queue was moving fast. By the time it was my turn, I was too beat tired to notice much about anything else. The cabbie started chatting and I was too polite to really ignore him so I uhm and ahh at appropriate intervals. However, he did update me on the new regulation that cabs are no longer allowed to pick passengers any-oh-how except for cab queues and designated building drop-off points. You know what's amazing?? I am a suaku woman who never reads the papers since two years ago (my house's got no papers). I didn't even know about the Edison Chen-BoBo Chan saga till like much much later. And that was because one of my friend send me a text to go to a particular website to check out their pictures. Ok back to the cab thing. The cabbie went on and on saying that it's a stupid regulation; he gave the analogy of one buying an air tix to Bangkok yet find himself in a Indonesia airport. I thought he was being a bit extreme in his analogy but I kept quiet and just uhm and aah. He then tried his best to persuade me to write to the forum as a passenger, so that our views (or rather his view) can be amassed at a greater public level. The next day, I went to work trying to verify his story with my colleagues and then I realise he left out an important detail: that the regulation applies to CBD/ Orchard area only! See the point here? People would twist the whole scenerio/ omit details to support their own cause. It's not just the cabbie but people in general.

Had steamboat the other day. Really potent kind of soup base, the herbal chicken on one side and the Szechuan spicy soup base on the other! Again, I like to marvel at us humans. Even though we knew it's gona be spicy like hell, with each bite, each sweat, we still venture on. The spicer, the more shiok we get! Even though people get scared while watching horror shows, people still like to be scared. Even though everyone knows it's wrong to drink and drive, anybody would still want to try their luck. It's really a matter of having that feeling that you can get away with things, of pushing your luck and assuming that everytime things would be in your favor. Explains a lot about why people stray in relationships as well.

Over steamboat, one of my friends then related a story of a couple who have had kids and married for like almost 10 years. Ended up the woman left the man, not for another man, but because she's nearing a mental breakdown and can't imagine living life with this man for the next 20-30. When is enough ever enough?

I returned home one day and found Wilson trying to fix this up!

What a nice surprise!!!! Too bad I got home before he had time to pour water into the vase and chuck the roses inside. The vase held some stones and fake orchids so he had to slowly remove the stones before he could even fill it up with water. There, you can see the whole vase now!!

Roses are nice but they died within the week. Life is nice but I have to die one day as well. Would I be like a rose and be appreciated whilst I am at my most glorious or would my brilliance be ignored and dismissed just like a passing lightning? This time, I did not dry the roses upside down. Instead, I pluck out the petals one by one; gave me a certain kind of satisfaction seeing the deep red petals in a heap, silky to the touch.

I must give special mention to these three guys in my dept: MLR, MN and CN. Was out for lunch with them and I didn't had much appetite (very unlike me). So I ordered a bottle of drinks and tomato soup. Seeing that I had so little, one of them offered to exchange his bowl of soup with mine cos his bowl looks more than mine... just so that my stomach's more filled up with liquid. The other two offered up their plates so that I can 'feel free' to sneak in a bite or two and at the same time opened my bottle and poured the juice into the iced cup for me (without me asking). The thing is they are just as nice to everyone else within the dept or for the same matter, anybody that they know within the organisation! It's rare to find such easy-going co-workers. Who never think twice to bring x'mas cheers (or any other season greetings) to the whole dept.

At least they prove that chivalry still exists. That courteous behaviour of men towards women still exists. And that makes me feel like a lady.

To round off my week, had wine with Pearl and Conrad on Friday. My friend, Pearl is a gutsy lady. I remembered she was real gutsy when we were in Batam, trying to fend off silly policemen extorting money from us. And on friday, she proved her gutsiness again when the manager was being real rude to everyone else in his sight. This time, she asked the waitress:" Is it your company's policy to scold customers?" Hahahaha!! I know when I am out with her, I won't be easily bullied.

Oh and Pauline brought me to Dempsey on Sat. My virgin trip!
