The One on Partying (III)

Introducing the two main characters on the scene - Me and Bernie... TA DAH!!! We started every night with the chilling-out mentality and that we wouldn't stay out too late, but most nights we still ended up returning home around 3plus - 4am..Uh-Hmm!

This place called ' Class ' :
---------------------------
A cool cosy place that is on No 47, Nanchang Road. This is frequented by regulars ie if you are a tourist, most likely you wouldn't get to know of this place, let alone get your ass down there. A very nice band plays there with a Jacky-Cheung soundalike guy. One thing here is they do not have chilli sauce!!! So if you order fries, you have to make do with ketchup or those bean-based chilli (those that are served in Dim Sum Restaurant)...imagine dipping fries into this kinda chilli... NOT ME!!!

The few pictures below are taken at Class. Besides me, Bernie and Kristan(our host), there is one other guy (David) and girl (Fanny) in some of them. Oh yes, before I forget, the tap in the loo is real funny, took us a few tries to figure it out with water flowing out from two ends and finally converging into one where we can wash our hands, yippee!

This Place called ' Vision ' :
-------------------------------

I can't even remember why we ended up there in the first place, I think it was Kristan's idea...Hmm. It has a red theme, with mahogany armseats, red beady separators and red lights. In fact, the lights make everything look red as if all of us were out of some 'Nightmare On Elm Street' film. In our bid to finish up the drinks, Joseph suggested some variations to the dice game (teach all of you next time, ie if I can still remember). Interesting and naturally we end up accomplishing our mission.

This Place called ' Guan Di ' :
-------------------------------

My favourite!! This is along Si Nan Road or something.... Absofuckinglutely fantastic! Music which I like to dance to, vibrant energetic crowd, (just look at the pic below) nice small stage and a steep slope where if you are really pissed, you can be really tumbling down to pee-pee land,... ya hahahaha!

Along the same stretch, there was another place called ' 97 ' , I wondered why David think it's fun cos quite a lot of old men there, (if you know what I mean). The only good thing is the TOILET, high class type. So we hope over back to ' Guan Di ' again.

And did I mention I was kinda popular with the ang-mohs?? Do I look like a SPG or what?? I think they assume I am some local Chinese girls cos guess what, they tried to chat me up in Mandarin.... I was trying to be super-dao to most of them. Oh well, except the occasional really cute hunks.

This Place called ' xxxxx ' : (oops, I forgot the name of the place)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I like the way they make things easy for the patrons to ask for help... (See pic below). They distingush the staff from the patrons and they distingush the staff from their supervisor. Blondy supervisor?? Not bad at all. Too bad I can't recall the name of this place, have to go and ask Joman and Simonman who brought us there.

I kinda like the band here, they play very decent songs, hell, they even make U2's 'With Or Without you' sound hip!

This Place called ' Blue Angels ' : ( I hope I didn't get the name wrong on this one)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The onion rings are oh-so-tasty! We are on the second level. And there was a surprise when I went to the third level to visit the ladies! There are about 5 or 6 big-sized cushion seats on the floor with nice mosquito-net lookalike covers hanging from the ceiling for each of these seats. So it feels like some private villa... with a lot of them occupied by couples smooching. Gives privacy a whole new meaning. I didn't dare snap any pictures for fear of disturbing them.

And just a little secret: BERNIE can't take her tequilas well.... hahaha hehee ho ho!!

The One on Eating (II)

Kristan has kindly brought us to this restaurant on our first night there, in his words this is just only 'mid-range'. (What?? Mid-range already so nicey!!))Me and Bernie were so bowled over by the plush setting with a grand entrance plus a separate pretty bar counter, something like a cross between Bar Opium/ Equinox but add in more avant-grande. It some tepanyaki style, super droolable and yummy, followed by some steamboat sukiyaki version. And so we ended up with a bursting tummy,... I bet my husband will gladly trade places with me on this one!

More snapshots on what kinda food we ate.... Actually we are not very particular on the type of stuff we had, guess shopping's more on our mind... We eat so that we have energy to roam around and to rest our tiring legs for a longer journey.

But One thing I have to say is this: there is this restaurant called Tasty whatever (I can't really remember the name of the restaurant). This is really very very nice (minus the somewhat robotic service of the stuff)! I can't even do justice to it by my description! Particularly the dessert and the appetiser... Oh no, thinking about it now makes me feel like dropping everything I am doing now. What more can I ask for from a meal??

Certainly, this is a city whereby there is no lake of a gastronomic experience. And all of them super affordable that I laugh out loud inside to myself.... Oops!

The One on Shopping (I)

This is taken when we rested halfway and Bernie trying to squeeze all her purchases into one bag... quite a TALL order huh.

Before we begin on our shopping spree proper, we already had a very eventful first day:
1) We were almost pickpocketed without our realisation and only knew when alerted by another Japanese tourist couple
2) We were given counterfeit money as loose change by the cabbie - and we had a crash course by one of the departmental store cashier to differentiate the real from the fake.
3) Our cabbie got into a row with the police - leaving us very afraid in the cab.

As for the details, I'll leave it to Bernie to elaborate on the juicy bits, rite girlie?

Okay, I'll get straight to the point. Shopping is really fabulous with bargaining a huge part of the fun. And Bernie is such an EXPERIENCED booty girl so I end up with a very satisfied pair of boots on her advice, whoa hoo! The rule of the game? Three simple ones:
1) Name the price you want and move on if the negotiation doesn't go through - there'll be others
2) We agreed that if we keep thinking about a particular item, just BUY it. If not, we will end up nagging the hell out of each other
3) Keep the shopping entourage to a maximum of three in a group. If not, we will waste time waiting for each other and most importantly, these three in the group must have similar traits. (those who take a long time to decide are OUT, and those who are selfish are OUT)

We adopt the rest-and-relax style so we didn't end up with a lot of purchases (before you guys start to roll your eyes, we are serious!) We arrived with two half-empty luggages and went home with ONLY five bags, not alot rite? In fact, we only exert 50% of our power, imagine if we execute 100%, wah seh!!!

Finally, just to show-case some of our proud purchases...... Tee Hee!!

Shanghai - A City for Shopping, Eating & Partying

Of cos, it is the place for sightseeing as well but I am not those touristy kind of person and after some time, the temples, towers, mountains start to look alike to me... Hmm, all the rich history seems wasted on me. So first things first. An insight into the place that we stayed,,, Kristan's house! It a pretty decent condo property with super-tight security. He kindly offered his queen-size bed in the guest room for both me and Bernie.

We started off with the Orietal Pearl Tower (picture on bottom top) this is supposedly an icon but I do not understand why. Then we bought tickets to visit Yu-Yuan, super duber big garden.

Isn't Yu-Yuan just absolutely beautiful? It so super huge,... we start to wonder what happened to those people who used to live here and suddenly it rains?? Siao liao.... hahaha!

When I look at all these tea houses, I start to imagine having the qing-gong to skim past the lake and jump down stylishly from the second floor like in those typical gong-fu movies... Funny rite?

Then again it kinda commercialised, I find it so amazing to see Haagen-Dazs housed under a Chinese-Looking roof. After roaming around this huge garden, we were so tired that we sat down on the floor(red shoes belong to mine, black boots Bernie's). And since we are kinda lost, we decided to follow the various tour groups so that we can get out of the place!

We took a bus too, and snapped a picture of the rude bus-conductress who go around the bus making sure eveybody pays up!!! Hmm, one thing about Shanghainese is that they are NOT a shy lot, even the girls yell at the top of their lungs.
