My week's been a blur

Started my audits so am out of the office sometimes; which means my time back in the office is very precious! I have to finish as much as I can cos I want to go home on the dot!!!!

Was taking train to SPC the other day with Cerilene. Ceri is heavily pregnant but nobody gave up their seats for her!!!!! People these days are numb. Numb to the goodness inside themselves. Numb to the sadness that surround the whole scenerio. So numb that in the end, the best course of action is to do nothing. Luckily on our way back, some one did give up her seat for Ceri. *beam beam*

So now it's Friday and I didn't feel I did anything much this week! Although I did visit Picotin. I really like the place, if not for the slightly out-of-place location.

1. The staff are well mannered, some of them shy in a cute way, some of them just are good looking.
2. The food is really good - they have their usual menu and they have a changing menu! A restaurant should be like that, constantly surprising their diners. Needless to say my mains and desserts were all from the changing menu. Else I might not have the chance to try it the next time.
3. The wine list is extensive, esp the reds.
4. The company is good.
5. The ambience is cosy - reconstructed from old horse stables. Well, even the toilet is in another stable.
6. The other diners look relaxed and happy. I think I spotted Cherie Lim (ex actress and married to rich stockbroker).

If not for the location, I would most probably like to make it a point to go there once or twice a month, just to be surprised.
A topic came across during dinner: Men are either born rich or poor, they cannot choose their parents. As for women, although we can't choose our parents, we get a second chance: we can choose who we marry!!
But it seems like I have used up my second chance... haha!

Talking about surprises, Wilson just got me a PSP!!!!!!!!! How to load games?? Can anybody teach me how? Must format the memory stick? Got Pac-man or not har? Got free downloads?

LA LA LA LA LA LA LA..... SHA-LA-LA!!!!!!!!!!

A collection of thoughts

Been a week of late nights (except Thursday) and my skin suffered as a result: rougher texture, abit of a breakout near my chin (I do wipe my mouth after meals so it couldn't be because I am a dirty little woman who never cleans up after eating), parched lips every so often and my undereye circles are a permanent fixture.

After dinner and drinks on Tuesday, had to catch a cab home. You can't imagine why Clarke Quay is still so crowded on a weekday; mostly ang-mohs so most probably tourists. We stood in line for quite a bit even though the queue was moving fast. By the time it was my turn, I was too beat tired to notice much about anything else. The cabbie started chatting and I was too polite to really ignore him so I uhm and ahh at appropriate intervals. However, he did update me on the new regulation that cabs are no longer allowed to pick passengers any-oh-how except for cab queues and designated building drop-off points. You know what's amazing?? I am a suaku woman who never reads the papers since two years ago (my house's got no papers). I didn't even know about the Edison Chen-BoBo Chan saga till like much much later. And that was because one of my friend send me a text to go to a particular website to check out their pictures. Ok back to the cab thing. The cabbie went on and on saying that it's a stupid regulation; he gave the analogy of one buying an air tix to Bangkok yet find himself in a Indonesia airport. I thought he was being a bit extreme in his analogy but I kept quiet and just uhm and aah. He then tried his best to persuade me to write to the forum as a passenger, so that our views (or rather his view) can be amassed at a greater public level. The next day, I went to work trying to verify his story with my colleagues and then I realise he left out an important detail: that the regulation applies to CBD/ Orchard area only! See the point here? People would twist the whole scenerio/ omit details to support their own cause. It's not just the cabbie but people in general.

Did I say I bought this glittering pair of dancing shoes?? Chio Chio Chio!!!!!!

Had steamboat the other day. Really potent kind of soup base, the herbal chicken on one side and the Szechuan spicy soup base on the other! Again, I like to marvel at us humans. Even though we knew it's gona be spicy like hell, with each bite, each sweat, we still venture on. The spicer, the more shiok we get! Even though people get scared while watching horror shows, people still like to be scared. Even though everyone knows it's wrong to drink and drive, anybody would still want to try their luck. It's really a matter of having that feeling that you can get away with things, of pushing your luck and assuming that everytime things would be in your favor. Explains a lot about why people stray in relationships as well.

Over steamboat, one of my friends then related a story of a couple who have had kids and married for like almost 10 years. Ended up the woman left the man, not for another man, but because she's nearing a mental breakdown and can't imagine living life with this man for the next 20-30. When is enough ever enough?

I returned home one day and found Wilson trying to fix this up!

What a nice surprise!!!! Too bad I got home before he had time to pour water into the vase and chuck the roses inside. The vase held some stones and fake orchids so he had to slowly remove the stones before he could even fill it up with water. There, you can see the whole vase now!!

Roses are nice but they died within the week. Life is nice but I have to die one day as well. Would I be like a rose and be appreciated whilst I am at my most glorious or would my brilliance be ignored and dismissed just like a passing lightning? This time, I did not dry the roses upside down. Instead, I pluck out the petals one by one; gave me a certain kind of satisfaction seeing the deep red petals in a heap, silky to the touch.

I must give special mention to these three guys in my dept: MLR, MN and CN. Was out for lunch with them and I didn't had much appetite (very unlike me). So I ordered a bottle of drinks and tomato soup. Seeing that I had so little, one of them offered to exchange his bowl of soup with mine cos his bowl looks more than mine... just so that my stomach's more filled up with liquid. The other two offered up their plates so that I can 'feel free' to sneak in a bite or two and at the same time opened my bottle and poured the juice into the iced cup for me (without me asking). The thing is they are just as nice to everyone else within the dept or for the same matter, anybody that they know within the organisation! It's rare to find such easy-going co-workers. Who never think twice to bring x'mas cheers (or any other season greetings) to the whole dept.

At least they prove that chivalry still exists. That courteous behaviour of men towards women still exists. And that makes me feel like a lady.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
To round off my week, had wine with Pearl and Conrad on Friday. My friend, Pearl is a gutsy lady. I remembered she was real gutsy when we were in Batam, trying to fend off silly policemen extorting money from us. And on friday, she proved her gutsiness again when the manager was being real rude to everyone else in his sight. This time, she asked the waitress:" Is it your company's policy to scold customers?" Hahahaha!! I know when I am out with her, I won't be easily bullied.

Oh and Pauline brought me to Dempsey on Sat. My virgin trip!

Two People

Two people can have loads to talk about or have awkward silence or have a comfortable silence. It really depends on what stage these two people are at.

Communication is about listening and comprehending the content of the other party's words. And sometimes a doze of acknowledgement. And usually one can tell if you are really listening or just letting the words flow past like a river.

After some passage of time, one may just give up communicating.

Becos there's no point.

Becos it's like 对牛弹琴.

Becos it's like talking to a mannequin that would never ever reply you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a completely unrelated matter, today I saw a little girl, about 4 to 5 years old. Her pink outfit caught my attention. But after 10seconds, my eyes zoomed down to her feet - she wore a pair of pink shoes with block high heels!!!

What's a 5-yr old doing with high heels???!!! She would have loads of opportunities when she grows up to wear all the killer heels she ever dreamed of or she ever wanted! But then I start to think that she didn't have the finanicial ability to buy that pair of shoes so it must have been her parent's decision. And very likely to be her mum. But wait! I shouldn't jump to conclusions, maybe it was a gift from her godma or grandparents or ....... well, bottomline is, must be from a woman.

Talk about society's prejudice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

AND may i just say again that on an even completely unrelated topic, I outdone myself in spacing out on the train today again!!

Jieting always waits for me at Yio Chu Kang MRT every Sat, since 8 months ago, every Sat save for the occasional holidays. SO from my house, the sequence of train station is: - Toa Payoh, Braddell, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio and then Yio Chu Kang.

It's common for me to find myself when I overshot my intended stations just cos I like to daydream every so often. But today I did something totally different, totally opposite.

I UNDER-SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw this stretch of unfamiliar blocks of flats on the train so I thought I must have overshot my Yio Chu Kang station! With horror, I quickly alighted at the next station--------------only to find out it's ANG MO KIO!!! one stop before my YIO CHU KANG!

ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That means every Sat,.... for the last 8 months, I have been daydreaming on the train and not been aware of the surroundings!!!!! How else would I suddenly think I overshot?

Shoot me please, someone! O father, who art in heaven, halo be thy name.........

What happen to the days of letters/ cards/ greetings, etc??

Was at my mum's home the other day and trying to find some stuff in my old cupboard. So I came across this whole pile of letters & cards that friends used to send/ give either on X'mas, CNY, birthday or just-to-say-hellos occasions.

I think I sorted them by occasion type:

1) X'mas cards

2) CNY cards

3) Birthday cards

4) Love Letters (hahaha!)

5) Others

And I further sort them by chronological order, so I had cards like from way back in 1990. That was the era of no-emails-mobilephones-sms-blogs-onlinephotos-facebook-msn. That was the era of good old fashion letters-homephones-cards-face2facetalking. I still recall that whenever there's a gathering, everybody is more or less on time as there were no other contact means if you are late. No mobile phones or sms to say:" you guys go ahead to the restaurant/ club/ house/ movie first and I'll buzz one of you when I get there."

An example of what kind of card I used to get in the good o' times:

............................................................................................................................................

..........................................................................................................................................................................
....................................................................................................................................................................

TAAAAA-DAH!!!!!!!

NICE OR NOT????

It's handmade by Bernie if I am not wrong (my 17th or 18th birthday??). Back then, we take turns making cards each time someone in our group has a birthday coming up. And we celebrate like crazy!! Used to like those sabo-ing type and cut cake ritual. Come to think of it now, it's kinda cute how we used to behave. I always 'force' Karen to decorate my file for me in college. *A-hem!!* *cough cough* I remembered she drew this very abstract woman in tracing paper and overlay it on nice purple paper to wrap around my file. The next year she drew baby polar bear instead. How did she know I like polar bears back then? Ok Ok back to the story of this card again. NEVER JUDGE A CARD BY ITS COVER!! Looks simple on the outside but it's really a very nice card inside - sweet, thoughtful, very gu-niang, very girl girl and can I say my friends are very talented lo!!!

There are about 4 pages of content inside. Come Come, let me show you!!!!!!

See what I mean??? Super girlie right?? I heart!!!! I heart the sophisticated looking woman in her posh dress and did you check out her high heels?? I also heart her hair, so retro!!! When I first saw this card, I used to think would I blossom into her?? hee hee hee.

But most of all, I heart each and every sentence of birthday wishes written by every classmate. Some wrote in mandarin, most in english, some wrote in black ink and some wrote in blue and decorate with red!! How nice and heartwarming!!! Imagine how happy I was when I got this card. No need for any other gifts cos this is the sincerest form of blessing!! And I know they secretly passed to one another to write during lectures lo!!! So sweet hor.

There's also one page of poem in that really perfect handwriting of Bernie's! LOOK!!!!!!

I glow and glow and GLOWWWWW and glow like a firefly on 26th July that year lo!

Then there's this one last page on the card which I am not going to show you any picture but to type it out for you to see. Here it goes:

  • Timotei loves U always
  • Weijie loves U even more
  • Kelvin loves U more than words can say
  • Kah Joo loves U, Steven (which is Kah Joo's angmoh mia btw) loves U EVEN MORE!
  • Songxi loves U more than Kah Joo, Steven, Kelvin, Weijie, Timotei,... & FOREVER MORE!

BUT

Xiuzhen, Huifen, Pengene, Steph, Ade, Karen, Qian-jie, Joylyn, Doreen, nicole, Hui-Ge, Guangyang, Andy, Zhenliang, Kok Swee, Simin, Desmond, JULIAN loves U even more!!!!

WHAT A LOVABLE BUNCH OF FRIENDS I HAVE!!! I also love you all more than 13 years ago!!!

My Surname

Today I received a reply from the police:"

GINE GOH
XXXXXXX
XXXXXXX....................................................."

Why do people like to mis-spell my surname???????

It's G for Girl-Girl
andO for Orbit-Cha-Cha.
No need to write H for Humbly-stupid behind.

A travel agent once mis-spelt my surname. And I ended up not being able to board the plane.

This name thing is a serious matter, I tell you. Get it right pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!!!

Download songs

Jas was asking me where to download a particular Bollywood song and so I "yahoo-ed" the song for her. Reminded me of the time I did the same thing for my bollywood fusion piece. Orginally, my song was 7mins long but I need to cut it to 2.5min max according to the rules of the competition. And thanks to Karen (I don't know who else I can turn to on short notice), she made the whole editing process looked like a breeze.

So during one of the practise, a video was shot for self-improvement later on. Here it goes.......

Eventually, I did make some last-minute changes as I keep forgetting some of the steps (probably they didn't flow which was why it was hard for me to remember).

Rental High

Over lunch, Bernie was just telling me that she will be shifting workplace to Alexandra (where exactly I don't know) sometime in the next two months. I knew property market's heating up again and learnt that it is the same in the rental market. But I didn't know that commercial rentals are going that fast too so it didn't really register to me like much of a big issue during lunch.

After lunch, I came back to a meeting and was told that our company is sourcing for some new office sites as well cos most of our existing lease will be up soon. And the grapevine indicated that landlords are demanding at least 3 to 5 times as much as previously! So probably we may need to shift our workplace to although nothing's concrete yet.

On top of the hassle of shifting workplace (I just did so half a year ago), I wondered how the new place would be like; what kind of lunch we can get, the environment, proximity to home, etc.... Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello!!

Bernie was asking why I was so lazy in updating my blog!

And I realise with horror that I am so busy with my dancing that I totally even forgot I had one in the first place!

Well, 10 more days to go and so just bear with me ya......
