What happen to the days of letters/ cards/ greetings, etc??

Was at my mum's home the other day and trying to find some stuff in my old cupboard. So I came across this whole pile of letters & cards that friends used to send/ give either on X'mas, CNY, birthday or just-to-say-hellos occasions.

I think I sorted them by occasion type:

1) X'mas cards

2) CNY cards

3) Birthday cards

4) Love Letters (hahaha!)

5) Others


And I further sort them by chronological order, so I had cards like from way back in 1990. That was the era of no-emails-mobilephones-sms-blogs-onlinephotos-facebook-msn. That was the era of good old fashion letters-homephones-cards-face2facetalking. I still recall that whenever there's a gathering, everybody is more or less on time as there were no other contact means if you are late. No mobile phones or sms to say:" you guys go ahead to the restaurant/ club/ house/ movie first and I'll buzz one of you when I get there."

NICE OR NOT????

It's handmade by Bernie if I am not wrong (my 17th or 18th birthday??). Back then, we take turns making cards each time someone in our group has a birthday coming up. And we celebrate like crazy!! Used to like those sabo-ing type and cut cake ritual. Come to think of it now, it's kinda cute how we used to behave. I always 'force' Karen to decorate my file for me in college. *A-hem!!* *cough cough* I remembered she drew this very abstract woman in tracing paper and overlay it on nice purple paper to wrap around my file. The next year she drew baby polar bear instead. How did she know I like polar bears back then? Ok Ok back to the story of this card again. NEVER JUDGE A CARD BY ITS COVER!! Looks simple on the outside but it's really a very nice card inside - sweet, thoughtful, very gu-niang, very girl girl and can I say my friends are very talented lo!!!

There are about 4 pages of content inside. Come Come, let me show you!!!!!!

See what I mean??? Super girlie right?? I heart!!!! I heart the sophisticated looking woman in her posh dress and did you check out her high heels?? I also heart her hair, so retro!!! When I first saw this card, I used to think would I blossom into her?? hee hee hee.

But most of all, I heart each and every sentence of birthday wishes written by every classmate. Some wrote in mandarin, most in english, some wrote in black ink and some wrote in blue and decorate with red!! How nice and heartwarming!!! Imagine how happy I was when I got this card. No need for any other gifts cos this is the sincerest form of blessing!! And I know they secretly passed to one another to write during lectures lo!!! So sweet hor.

There's also one page of poem in that really perfect handwriting of Bernie's! LOOK!!!!!!

I glow and glow and GLOWWWWW and glow like a firefly on 26th July that year lo!

Then there's this one last page on the card which I am not going to show you any picture but to type it out for you to see. Here it goes:

Today I received a reply from the police:"

Why do people like to mis-spell my surname???????

It's G for Girl-Girl
andO for Orbit-Cha-Cha.
No need to write H for Humbly-stupid behind.

A travel agent once mis-spelt my surname. And I ended up not being able to board the plane.

This name thing is a serious matter, I tell you. Get it right pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!!!

Download songs

Jas was asking me where to download a particular Bollywood song and so I "yahoo-ed" the song for her. Reminded me of the time I did the same thing for my bollywood fusion piece. Orginally, my song was 7mins long but I need to cut it to 2.5min max according to the rules of the competition. And thanks to Karen (I don't know who else I can turn to on short notice), she made the whole editing process looked like a breeze.

So during one of the practise, a video was shot for self-improvement later on. Here it goes.......



Eventually, I did make some last-minute changes as I keep forgetting some of the steps (probably they didn't flow which was why it was hard for me to remember).

Rental High

Over lunch, Bernie was just telling me that she will be shifting workplace to Alexandra (where exactly I don't know) sometime in the next two months. I knew property market's heating up again and learnt that it is the same in the rental market. But I didn't know that commercial rentals are going that fast too so it didn't really register to me like much of a big issue during lunch.

After lunch, I came back to a meeting and was told that our company is sourcing for some new office sites as well cos most of our existing lease will be up soon. And the grapevine indicated that landlords are demanding at least 3 to 5 times as much as previously! So probably we may need to shift our workplace to although nothing's concrete yet.

On top of the hassle of shifting workplace (I just did so half a year ago), I wondered how the new place would be like; what kind of lunch we can get, the environment, proximity to home, etc.... Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello!!

Bernie was asking why I was so lazy in updating my blog!

And I realise with horror that I am so busy with my dancing that I totally even forgot I had one in the first place!

Well, 10 more days to go and so just bear with me ya......

Super Zubo.....

This morning we all had to arrive between 7.22am - 9.12am and park our ass at our seats - the longer the better; according to some feng shui that my boss consulted. Today marked my first very uneventful day at our new office 0ver at starhub!!!

The initial plan was to go to the old office in the morning to work and after lunch we will adjorn to Starhub and wait for the movers to ferry over all our boxes/ desktops. End up the feng shui meant that we all had to be there between a certain time and sit at our seat to stare at each other in the morning. Plus we had to bring our personal effects along to signify we have occupied the seats... And since we were there already and too lazy to go back old office, we just stayed put.

But there wasn't anything to do at all!!!! Really xu du guang yin!!!!

After breakfast at 1030am, we went back back and only lasted half an hour of chatting before we decided to hit the malls. Opened at 11am rite Centrepoint? By the time I came back from lunch/ shopping it was 2.40pm and I thought our boxes would have arrived but NO!! not at all. Although I am too tired to really window shop but after 15minutes of flipping through magazines on my desk, I can't stand it any longer!! Really is ren shen mei you yi yi!!!!!

So just walked around the malls again for another half an hour. By the time we were back in office, we ate curry puffs and just when we thought we all wanted to go home at 5pm, the boxes arrived!!!

Wah... finally!!... the two Bangadeshes that our dept engaged to help unload sat in the office whole day with nothing to do until now. Still get their $50. Not bad lei.

Anyway, I directed them to drop by boxes at my work station and off i went!! Can't believe I wasted the whole day really doing nothing. Might as well go home and do CNY spring clean even better.

Not end of story yet.... cos guess what??? My PC hadn't arrived YET. Another day of waiting and unpacking tomorrow. What a way to prepare for CNY.

Brand Matters

Does brand matter at all when it comes to the choice of sanitary napkins? I have been using other brands until this......

Used to be known as 'Kotex' right? There is a netting on top of all the cotton stuff but the first one I used the netting tear halfway through. So I thought maybe that was only a problem pertaining to that specific one so I changed. Same thing happens again.

I think I won't buy this brand ever again. Better to stick back to my tried and tested ones.

So many fraudsters

I have been getting a lot more investigation files these days. Other than the occasional allegation of misleading advertisement slash breach of don't-know-what; most of the cases are of forgery nature...

Untill I wanna puke just looking at the word:" Fraud"... Sigh!!! Do I look like a expert Fraud detective or is it simply just that cases of such a nature is on the rise over the last few months? The headache is not so much the process but rather having to beg warehouse to help me retrieve the original documents. Aiyo.....

And I am quite slow in typing the statement since I need some time to think through what is important enough to put down in the statement. All the while, the 'accused' will be loitering around or having coffee nearby just to wait for me to finish typing my statement. Usually simple ones take me about half an hour but with more material, I need about an hour. Haha, how to drink coffee for an hour huh?
